Today was Hayley's 6th birthday and what a day it was. It all started out with snow being cancelled this morning, so we ALL got to sleep in!!! (That was a great present to start with) It was so cute, Hayley ran into our room this morning about 7:30 and told us that it was her birthday, she was SO excited. I told her that school was cancelled because it was her birthday and snowing--she crawled into bed with us and we all slept until about 9:30!!! Brian had asked her if she would still crawl in bed with us when she was 16 and she said YES--I think that made his day!!
making snow-creme--yummy!

Way back in the fall I had ordered a cut little cupcake cake pan (the one with the top and bottom separate) she has been asking for this cake for months. I had planned on making her a birthday cake while she was at school today and having it all ready for when she got home. Needless to say that is not how it all worked out. I surrendered the OCD that I have and let Hayley do the icing and decorating herself. It wasn't the prettiest cake that I have ever seen, but you are only little once and it tasted good. Hayley is such a little chef--she L O V E S to be in the kitchen and is always wanting to help cook. Momma gave her a Paula Dean cookbook for Christmas and she is always using this for things to bake. We tease her that whoever she marries is getting a good woman who can make some good food!

Hayley had chosen to "Legends" to eat for her birthday dinner. For those of you who don't know what "Legends" is, it's a Chinese restaurant that her best friend, Bonnie Hou's family owns. Since we had lots of snow and the roads were nasty, I told her that she could pick what we ate tonight and we would do her birthday dinner this weekend. Hayley chose shrimp, peas, and mac and cheese!
