Hayley has has some issues (imagine that ) with her allergies and asthma these past couple of week thanks to this non existent winter we have been having. Thursdays, while I was at work the nurse asked me to come see her because Hayley was in there wanting her inhaler and sounded tight. *sign #1* She is only allowed to use her inhalers at certain times during the day and it was not at the next time she could use it. Nurse Jennifer took her Oxygen level and it was a 93 *sign # 2* we waited and had her take some deep breaths and it went up to 96. Still not perfect or where we want it (98 or above) so I told her to have recess in my room and I called Dr. Massey. Got her an appointment for Friday at 10--perfect!
We arrived and she immediately did a PET test (where you blow into a little machine and it measures your lung capacity). This was OK, not not where we wanted to be so we started a breathing treatment.
First treatment. 10:30 am
Oxygen level 81
(I enter extreme panic mode, I have always been told that if her levels drop below 92 then we should go ahead to Kosairs just because of her medical history. I was able to hold it together, Dr. M. knew we had to or this would be the end of Hayley--she asked as soon as she heard 81 if she had to spend the night in the hospital, she knows the routine, bless her heart!)
Second treatment. 11:05 am
Oxygen level 87
Third treatment 11:40 am
Oxygen level 96
We were so thankful and relieved for this!!! Home with steroids and nebulizer!! Recheck back on Thursday. Hayley knows that if she doesn't take her meds (its liquid bc she is still under weight!), breathing treatments, inhalers or rest, she will be admitted and will have to miss out on our Ski trip next weekend to Gatlinburg!!!
