This afternoon we helped Mimi clean out the Tack Room. After all that hard work the kids wanted to ride, so we saddled up the horses. The kids have their favorite and usual horses that they ride: Hunter rides Max and Hayley rides Toby and they very seldom switch, if ever.
Hayley loves to ride Toby for some crazy reason. He is the second biggest horse and the oldest one Mimi owns (Curly Bill is the biggest). STUBBORN and ONRY to a tee.....reminds me of a little girl named Hayley that I know. Well, Hayley was having a fit because Toby wasn't "listening" to her (hmmm...reminds me of that same little girl) and wouldn't "work right" I kept telling her that maybe because its cold outside, he's tired, ready to eat and be put up for the night. She went on and on whining and complaining so Hunter told her that he would switch. That little fart gets on Toby and this is what he does:
I had to pick my jaw up off the ground. Hunter has came such a long way in such a short time. He NEVER has been the horse type (thanks to a good bucking off of Diesel) but has come full circle. The fact that he was on Toby and had him trotting was amazing. Toby doesn't trot for anyone..not even Mimi and that is her horse!! Heck, most of the time when you are on him you are constantly fighting him to go! My nerves were calmed a little because we were in the round pen and they couldn't get going that fast, but it was fast enough. You can see the buckets in the video, that is how we get the kids to work on neck reining. Out here on "The Mitchell Lane" we bucket race, not barrels.
After Hayley saw Hunter and how he was making him trot, she decided that she wanted to trot to, not on Toby, but Max! I was a little nervous just because Hunter was really getting Toby going and not knowing if he would really watch out for Hayley. Thank goodness Max was a good horsey and let Hayley trot with him. I could only imagine the melt down that would of came if he hadn't trotted!
