Today Hayley and I went to her new ENT, Dr. Coppula for our first visit. It was very long appointment, 2. 5 hours, but worth every minute of it. Let me first begin by saying how brave and strong Hayley was, he was having to do things to her that he olny does to adults and not once did she cry or wimper..MOMMY AND DADDY ARE SO PROUD OF YOU HAYLEY!!!
He started off by asking all her history of surgeries, meds etc--had most of her records already faxed to him but still was missing some scans from when she was little. Guess the 2 hours on Wednesday with her drs offices, paid off! Then he looked in her ears--that is when it really got interesting--we got to see the inside of her ears, the ear drum and all the other parts of the ear on TV with a microscope!! It was soo cool, even Hayley got to watch.
Then we went back to the room and he did some numbing sprays up her nose and packed it with some numbing packed her nose with it---it made my eyes water and nose run seeing how forcefully he had to do this, but not once did she cry--she just squeezed my hand like such a big girl! After her nose was numb, he took his "toy" which looked like a cross between a worn and a fishing line (about the thickness of a No.2 pencil) up her nose to look around...he was full of lots of information after both investigations.
We found out that:
~SEVERE asthma and allergies (we knew that)
~Ears had lots of thick, bloody wax (couldn't see that unless with a microscope--he scraped out and was going to send to a lab for testing)
~Ear drums (both) are compressed and retracted
~Estation tube is VERY small with little or no drainage
~She has some hearing loss in the left ear
~he sinus cavities are 1/16 the average size of a normal child
~very inflamed with lots of puss and infection
~very small and compacted
~her right nostril is smaller then her left
~some scar tissue from her adenoids (but no regrowth)
~the sinus cavities are overflowing (this causing ear problems)
~the sinus cavities on her forehead are not yet formed
We have surgery scheduled for Monday at 7:15, at that time we will do another set of tubes and a more invasive nasal scope. Hope that this will bring lots of relief for Hayley!
