The boys have been to Bowling Green for the past 3 years to watch the TS Diesel Performance Truck Pull/Show. Usually Hayley and I have a nice little weekend together with girl time: pedi's, Chinese food, movies, and brownies but this year she wanted to go. I was VERY torn about it but after seeing how excited Brian was that she wanted to go made it all better. I was excited about having my family all to myself (OK I had to share them with trucks, but still) and being out in the SUNSHINE. It was the perfect way to celebrate the end of school and the start of summer!!!
The kids were excited that they had unlimited DS time on the way there!!
It was out in the middle of "nowhere" --you know this must be true coming from someone who lives out in the middle of "nowhere." There was nothing but trucks for miles and miles--this was the us in line paying to get in.
I had to laugh because at this point Brian turned off the radio so he could listen to the "music" of the diesel trucks. He is counting down the less then 30,000 miles (will be outta the 100,000 warranty) he has left on his truck before he can turn it up and add all this stuff to it. Our barn is full of things that he is buying here and there for it.
Pipes and more pipes
There is something about sunshine, the sight and sound of diesel trucks and black smoke as far as you can see.
When we got there and parked we walked around the vendors and looked at all the types of vehicles that were drag racing. LOVE the fact that even tho Hayley is 8 she still will walk up and grab our hand to hold and walk.
BE STILL MY HEART
Anything that you could put a diesel motor in and drive was there. It was very funny to see some of these creations--Ford Ranger, Mustangs, Explorers, but the best was this Lexus. Hunter said it had "You might be a Red Neck" written all over it.
Trucks were lined up 2 by 2 waiting to race.
The grandstands were in the shade and it was SO nice--not hot or crowded, so we picked a seat and watched the drag races. These durn things are so fast, I couldn't get any good pictures.
I LOVED hearing Brian explain things to the kids, they both asked 10,000 questions and he was so patient with them both. God love him!
MY LIFE. MY LOVES. MY EVERYTHING
We parked close enough that we could sit in the bed of the truck, eat lunch and still be able to watch the races.
This guy was cRaZy....he had a brand, spanking new Jetta (diesel) still with paper tags on it and took it out on the drag strip. I guess he wanted to see what it was made of or just tyring to get in the Diesel Life magazine...craziness!!
My favorite part (after I got over the money they are blowing on tires) was the burnouts they did to get their tires "warm." I was quickly reminded that if you have money to do this, then you have money for tires.
Money was NO issue to lots of people...there was every make, model, year, and type of truck there. After a quick lesson from Hunter explaining how they get their trucks to go that fast: "they have additions Mom, it doesn't come outta the factory with that...(pick one): air in-take system, NOS, turbo charger, lift kit, motor, fuel pump, etc) Yup, awkward moment for me--he was SO in his element!!
These people were serious---had the camera mounted on their trucks to tape their races....

MY ALL TIME FAVORITE OF THE DAY......
THE COOL BUS reached an amazing 54 miles in 39 seconds on a 1/4 mile track!!
If I had a truck I wanted this one....Dodge, Mega Cab, charcoal gray, NO pipe out the bed--just a big one out the back, covered lid (you know so that my groceries won't get wet) that removable (so that I can hook to the gooseneck and pull the horses), oh yeah, those wheels were pretty nice too!
We headed back to the hotel about 6 and went to this YUMM-O restaurant, Oasis, that was across the street from the hotel. Hayley was in heaven, she spilt a slab of ribs with her Daddy. This chic can eat her weight and then some in ribs!
All in all, it was a pretty neat day and from hearing the boys talk, tomorrow will be even better!! We shall see...
