Sunday Practice

Hunter was very sore and worn out but he loved every minute of it! When all was said and done he ran and biked 10 miles.

Sunday is usually and "off day" when its comes to CC practice, not this week. It was the practice they all love and its the hardest workout muscle wise. Mentally and physically you have to be in the moment and stay focused. Its run an 800 and ride and 800 (your recovery time is your biking an 800. For a full hour, fast as you can, no stopping!!

It was pouring down rain, windy and tornado warnings all around us! Kids didn't care as they were in it to win it! Dedication and heart are something that these kids do not lack. Love that about them!!

Hayley was excited because I let her play in the puddles---MOM of the Year!!

Banner Up

Our AAU banner came today!! Its getting excited to see how things are starting to come together for our trip. We are now T minus 15 days away--let the stressing begin as I start to tie up all the loose end.

Some exciting and positive notes:
~ Hunter has been really working hard and has dropped more time off his 3K time.
~He's starting to find his paces and realizes how important this is during a race.( I hate this because its something that is so hard to learn and take lots of muscle memory- something that he has to do by himself. I am so happy to see this--its caused us both lots of tears and stress.)
~Strides have been cut in 1/2!!!! His leg turnover has increased greatly and I am SO HAPPY!!

meet jack.  love his boy and would take him home in a nano second. I always eat lunch with the kids, its easier and I like having the down time, talking and having fun while not in teaching mode. I rotate turns eating with each kid and bring them a special treat when they eat with me. I brought veggie soup Tuesday, turn my head to help a student and Jack is eating my soup!! I died laughing and snapped a picture. He told me “Ms. Jessica, it looked so good and my Momma hasn’t made me any and its my favorite”  Oh, the joys of preschool!

Disney Phone Dump

I finally took off all the pictures off my phone from Disney. I wish that my IPhone had a date stamp on pictures. I can’t remember where each picture is from but I will try.

Fisher clan invaded SDF and was ready to hit Disney. This is the first and possibly last picture of all 11 of us together, depending on how the trip goes

AAU practice day 1

About a month ago, I was approached by Coach Tally (HS CC coach) about Hunter running AAU cross country. I was nervous and had a long list of questions for him to answer. Sought counseling from Coach Ricky (Hunter cc coach) and some friends who older children run in different states. They all said the same thing: "DO IT!! They have NEVER asked anyone younger then 13 to join the team."

Brian and I talked with the Coaches (some of who we never met), asked why they wanted Hunter to run and were very impressed with them. They said that with his heart, determination, season performance, grades and times he is what they are looking for. (going to brag a minute--his 5K time (3.1 miles) was 20 minutes, he never had run one before the October fest race--his time was faster then some on the HS) and decided to let Hunter do AAU.

He practices with the HS team and has fit right in. They have accepted him as their own-pushed him to become the best-encouraged him when he has needed it and helped to set goals for himself both near and far. Times are already better, he is running a 5:45 mile, an 11:40 3k, and ran a 5K in 19:20 yesterday!!

Practices are very intense  from 3-6 daily, with additional strength training that needs to be done at home on his own time. He is on the HS running and training schedule--so far he has done wonderfully. Very sore at the end of the week, but its a good sore. I was told that I am not allowed at practice (can't even take pictures) because there is to be NO distraction for them! I was upset at first and then realized they are right--its serious when you get to HS

We (Hunter and I) leave on Dec 4 to head to Georgia with 40 of the best athletes from the State of Kentucky. I am super excited that he has been given this opportunity and can't wait to see him run.
Praying that all his hard work will pay off and he will get a scholarship in years to come

Prezi's

Seabolt, Hayley's teacher, is the craziest man around. Anything that he can do to get the kids excited about learning he does-jumping around the room desk to desk, rapping, singing, etc.

The kids made him a "geek bow tie" and he wore it with pride

He is a super tech nerd--he loves it. Finding all kind of new learning games and websites on the Internet. Recently he was teaching fractions and the kids were struggling with it some. He assigned each child a partner and said that they needed to come up with a Prezi (think power point) explaining how to solve a fraction.
Hayley and Emily's was so good that he asked them to present to the Board of Ed on Monday night. They rocked their presentation and fielded questions like a pro! Proud Momma

Rare night

Brian has been working like crazy with this lovely weather we have been having. 16-18 hour days with no days off. He is suppose to get 4 days off a month but I couldn't tell you the last time that happened. I miss him so much when we go days without seeing each other. Thankful for a rare night with him at home, even if he slept the whole time--I still got to snuggle with him!

State CC meet

Why is it ALWAYS cold on State Meet day?!?!?! Last year it was rainy and snowy--this year was windy and freezing!!! Guess it makes the kids run faster, right? We were bundled up and headed to Lexington!

Yup, I was snapping pictures like crazy!
Today was the BIG meet (KTCCCA Meet of Champions) that we the kids have been working towards all season long. I usually don't get nervous at meets, but I was extremely nervous at this meet. Last year  there were so many kids all over the place. If you didn't get a good start you were screwed, narrow lanes, kids walking in the turns, it was awful!!!

We found our text and bunked down, tried to keep the kids calm, warm  and resting until the meet started.

Thankfully today was still crazy and a lot of kids but Hunter was coached very well on how to get out of those situations and he got an amazing start!!!

Everyone gathered at the starting line to wish the boys good luck (love their team support for each other) and to gather the clothes as kids started stripping the layers.

Praying before the start

I get so emotional each time the race goes off--its something about seeing all these kids (there were 392 ) in the 6 and under group. Coach let Hunter run down (he is a 6th grader so if there is a 6 and under age group, he runs that. Its all a point system and he had a better chance of getting less points--think golf. I really don't understand much more then that, thankful Coach and Hunter know what they are doing)

Coach, Brian and I were at certain markers during the course so we could encourage and yell times to him. I was that Momma--yelling and cheering like crazy!!

Coach was upfront and honest with the kids and always has been. He told Hunter that he really didn't think he could get top 30 because of his previous time (12:32--it was his slowest time ever last week) Well, with Hunter you tell him something and he is determined to prove you wrong! It paid off because Hunter placed 26th, had a new PR (personal record) 11:58.08 and obtained his goal of Elite (that's under 12 minutes). I was crying like a baby.

How awesome to see your  name on the MOC official shirt?!?!

I am beyond proud of Hunter, he has been putting in long hours of training and running between 35-50 miles each week. Never once has he complained about it--he is the most determined runner with the largest heart I ever met, this young. He knows what he wants, sets his goals high and works towards them.

Next meet--AAU NATIONAL meet in GEORGIA!!
