Octoberfest 5k

Wednesday, was the 1st Annual October Fest 5K for the Lane Goodwin Foundation. (Indiana peeps: think Harvest Homecoming). Hunter said that he wanted to run this in honor of Dawson and Blake. Dawson is his classmate/friend who passed 6 months ago from brain cancer and Blake is a 6 year old boy who lives out by us that is in remission from brain cancer. Needless to say, this issue hits close to home for us.
I got him signed up and was told that he needed pictures for his jersey to wear, he was going to WIN this for them! Yes, I was emotional and he was too.

We did honor signs with the boys name on them to put along the way

Christopher Randolph from WAMZ was doing a live remote

Hunter and Tab, best friends

Mason (Dawson's little brother) wanted a picture with Hunter

Hunter and his track coaches from last year: Terri and J Hahn (she lost her husband in June '12 to brain caner)

And they are off....

I was standing at the 1500 mark talking to McKenzies momma, looked up and saw lights. My phone started to go crazy with texts and calls, Hunter and Tab were leading the race. (enter more tears here) I ran down to the park and watched them make the final leg--this was so emotional.
last 200 yards

I didn't get a picture of him crossing the finish line (I know bad Momma!) but have one beign sent to me.
He did awesome, WON the race with a time of 20.35 and Tab was 2nd with a time of 20.38!!! I couldn't be prouder. As soon as he crossed the line, poor thing, burst into tears. He said he "DID IT FOR DAWSON" that was Dawson's motto when he was sick and fighting. First person he wanted to call was Melody--it was a beautiful but emotoinal phone conversation!

Hunter and Melody (this is Dawson's Momma)

Hunter, Mel and Tab

WINNER of the 1st annual 5k!!

I am proud of Hunter for his determination and dedication--he is so strong willed and has his mind made up on many things--this is just one of them!  The HS CC coach texted me: "That was a hell of a race from what I hear, hated I missed it. So proud of Hunter for time tonight, that is what some of my Sophmores are running right now. Tell him to stick with it, excited for what is to come his way. I know that Dawson is smiling down on him"

Wow, thanks for making me cry. What an awesome thing to do! The "did it for Dawson" is what took me down. What a great way to remember him & the others that have passed on. Tears...
